The Book

The Book

About “If Jesus Were A Parent” … Jesus was dramatically discipled by His Father.  Further, He adopted a few men to disciple.  Finally, Jesus commanded His disciples to make disciples, For these reasons, Hal Perkins was convicted by the Holy Spirit to major pastoral ministry around becoming and making disciples of Jesus.  This included the making and multiplying of disciplemakers.    When it became known that his wife was having triplets, Hal realized that his family was to become the first focus of his disciplemaking ministry.  28 years later, with all four children involved in national teaching and discipling ministries, both his family and others encouraged Hal to write the book outlining the biblical essentials and strategies for parents to disciple their families.  The book is essentially about making disciples with primary application for parents. The first three chapters of the book are in response to Jesus’ command to teach our disciples to obey everything He taught.  Chapter one focuses on three levels of authority.  Chapter two teaches how to train young children to obey. Chapter three discusses the strategic transitioning of children from full submission to parental authority to complete freedom by the start of the senior year in high school.   The next four chapters teach parents the skills of identifying and eradicating destructive thought patterns, and replacing these lies by planting God’s truth deeply in the soft, open heart of willing children.

The remaining chapters offer strategies for training and coaching family members until they are mature disciples and actually making disciples – all before leaving home.
